We've really only discussed homophobia with my oldest DD. She had a little boy at school tell her he couldn't play with her because she had two moms. I think that's the biggest thing she has had to deal with, most we shield them from by living in a very accepting community and surrounding ourselves with people who love and care for us.

Agree that this is so not interesting that OP must be from a less accepting part of the country. We live in a prettying ordinary Virginia suburb and even the 89 year olds didn't bat an eyelash when a gay couple with two kids moved in. Our concerns are getting the leaves picked up, not blocking driveways with work trucks and being friendly to all. I saw the Imitation Game this weekend and was shocked to remember the treatment homosexuals once endured. This s a sea shift in my lifetime and we are the better or it

Compared to other areas of the country, definitely this area is more accepting. Do my kids get teased? Kids get teased about absolutely everything - whether your mom is fat, a lesbian, the type of job she has, you name it. So, yes it is fodder for teasing. But there is so much support for gays and lesbians that it's not generally acceptable to tease kids about it.

Not OP - just another lesbian who is raising kids with wife in the greater DC area. Been together for decades, but not married until it became legal in DC in 2010.

-- raising kids with partner of 18 years, not particularly worried about our relationship, all of our current close friends are straight, drive a Toyota, I pay bills while she does laundry, I do school arrangements, she takes out the trash, and no one's been a jerk about it to us

i am not OP, but I am raising two kids with my partner of 12 years (married 3).

- I am not concerned about our relationship- any more or less than other couples we know.

- we probably have more straight friends but our closest confidants are other lesbian couples.

- we drive a Toyota sienna minivan.

- we don't prioritize any career over the other- we supported one another through grad school. My job is more flexible than hers so I often do school or doctor type things, but that's just the way the chips fell.

-we split chores pretty equally. I nearly always cook while she cleans after. I do laundry, she vacuums. Seems fair.

- my kids are young and know their family is different but are pretty matter of fact about it. Both my partner and I have faced bias, but our family ony has once- when looking for an in-home daycare provider.

I think it should be called marriage or equal marriage but don't really care much.
