I would call and ask the host what to bring. Isn't the spouse a host also? Maybe OP only knows one of them.

Of course you bring a veg dish unless specifically asked otherwise by the host.

I would bring a vegetarian dish. I think it troubles many vegetarians to have a meat dish on the table at all, even if someone else brought it.
