Yes, not only hot spots but w/cancer all around us, I worry about radiation and all that.

I just set the bottle in a saucepan of boiling water, w/the stove turned off of course.

Sure, it takes more time, but less risk.

We used glass bottles, and microwaved formula, but not breast milk. We always swished the formula around well, and never had any problems. It's not that hard.

DD has only ever had formula ( shes adopted if it matters) so we always gave it to her at room temp.
So happy we did, made life so much easier.

This. Makes the most sense, is the safest and fastest way to heat milk. Why risk burns or plastic leeching into the milk by heating it in the bottle? This is one, fast additional step - pour the milk into a pyrex measuring cup, microwave, pour it over your finger into the bottle.

I cannot remember what we did with breastmilk (we used to warm in a water bath but may at some point have started microwaving briefly just to take the chill off), but I now do microwave cow's milk for my twins. Briefly, just to take the chill off.

For formula, we used to use a small amount of boiling water to mix the powder (eliminates contamination issues), and then mixed that with cold water. You have to figure out the ratio of hot and cold to make sure you get the right temperature.
