We have a large family room 17 x 20 and it's an open floor plan so the family room opens on one side to the kitchen, on another side to the sunroom and on a third side a hallway and arch to the dining room. It's central and large. we had an entertainment center with a 32" TV and it was hard to see the TV from many places in the open plan. We replaced it with a 65" TV that is as large as the old entertainment center (which moved up to our bedroom). It's the right size for the space. We've hosted movie nights many times for one group of our friends and it works great. The 32" is the right size for our master although we almost never use it. Outside of movies, we don't watch a lot of TV.

My daughter is only five so I realize I could be oUT of it but is this normal these days? I was allowed a TV in my room at 12 (very small and old but I was pumped) and I was one of the only kids I knew with a TV in their room through high school.

WTF? You want your kid to be holed up in her room numbing her mind every waking minute?

I'm a PP. This says a lot about you, and the people you invite over.

OP here. This is my concern. A gawdy oversized tv. Even in a big space..is 65" just too much?

Exactly! I don't WANT the first thing that someone notices in my house to be a big azz piece of electronic crap that men seem to need bigger in order to prove themselves somehow. I'm sure Freud would have plenty to say about all of these "DH's" that already have a 70 inch TV and think they need an 80 inch one

Good lord! Our biggest TV is in the armoire in the LR, probably about 30 inches? In our bedroom is 24?, kitchen, den and boys bedrooms have 13 inches I think. They watch DVD's only once in a while, no cable in there.
And none are flat screen. And we manage to survive every single day, LOL!!!

I don't care how cheap it is. This is just wrong.

Thanks for alerts us to what an idiot you are. Lucky kid.

How large is the room? Specifically? We have a 19x19 family room open to a kitchen and I probably wouldn't go more than about 55. We have 47 right now and it's fine.

32 inch. I honestly think that big is pretty gaudy.

We have a 65 inch in our living room and a 70 inch in our bedroom because that is what fits. Our place is a small two bedroom and we entertain a lot. The tv is used to stream pandora when we have guests and is generally unnoticeable unless there is dancing or the conversation otherwise turns to the music being played, at which point it is simply a reference. We would never turn on actual tv while we have adult guests.

40 inch in the living room. We live in a 1100 sq ft row house. It's the perfect size. Any bigger and it would dominate--when we have friends over we are usually not watching the TV.
