Subject: withdraw now, or stick it out?
Easiest to get a tutor. I had to do it twice and it was fine. There is bad teaching sometimes at public school also. Or apply to math magnet.

Unfortunately, this is a drawback for many privates. Math instruction and the level of classes is not as strong as in public. Private does offer many other areas which kids can thrive in and find interest in.
It really depends if you think all the other good things should be sacrificed for Math. HS does get better especially if your school offer more honors and AP classes in HS. It really is a personal decision which way your child would benefit more. You also need to think a few years down the road about your HS choice.
This is silly to say.

To each their own: we pulled out DC from private and put in rigorous public for this reason. A world of difference.

Have you let the school know what you are considering and exactly how unhappy you are? We did this and the private school pulled DD out of the math class and provided a class of one just for her. Later in the year several other students joined. In the end it didn't matter, because we moved at the end of 9th grade and the public magnet she attended in our new city
had a great math program. She learned to write, paint and several other things that are important at the private, so I think looking back it was a good experience.

Supplement with a tutor... that is what we are doing. Ride out this year. It will have to get better next year.

I would do Art of Problem Solving after school. My DC loved the videos that went with the books, and has won/scored well on math comps, SAT, etc.

OP, you said your child would rather stay. So he's happy in school overall, academically and non-academically, with everything except math class? If that's the case, please stay put!
I would be so grateful to have a happy, thriving middle-schooler and wouldn't do anything at all to mess with it.
Rarely is anything in life absolutely perfect, let alone "great save for one class." I'd just worry that things will not necessarily be better after the switch for any number of reasons.
