Graduated in 1988 from a high school in AZ. I remember my very best friend but that's pretty much it. I was pretty middle of the road socially in hs. I've never been to a reunion nor do I have any desire to.

I remember nearly every single one, even 4,5 grades apart, from small private we went to for years, not just for high school.
But, when we moved and went to a large public - no, rarely remember those classmates. We had only a short time together, more than a thousand in my grad class and very few real lasting relationships there.

I thought I did, and then I went to my 5 year reunion (5 years! We were still so young!) and had to ask my friend who this or that person was all night.

I do remember everyone, and I'm still friends with quite a few. I suppose my parents were paying for that sort of lifelong social connectedness--- it was a top tier private.

OP, when people run into you, ask them to remind you. Be pleasant and sincere. They are a stranger to you, but you might decide you want to get to know them better. Why not?No reason to think they are the same person they were in high school.

I remember a lot of them - but then again I just went to my 20 year reunion this past summer and am friends with a lot of them on FB.

There are 2 or 3 that I do not remember at all -- which is strange because the class was small (109 of us). There are people I remember that left our freshman year but not those other folks.

I enjoyed HS - it was a positive experience and I learned a lot. It was more impactful on me than college in the long run. But I don't look at it as the 'best days of my life' -- my life is pretty awesome now and no one can ground me.

I'm in my 40s and can't remember a lot of my classmates. Even people I was very close with can try to bring up this or that memory or good time, which can have them doubled over laughing as they talk about it, and I have no idea what they're talking about. Maybe part of it depends whether you stayed close to home after hs or whether you moved away?

How long ago was high school for you OP?

I was thinking about this the other day. I am from the midwest and have been out in DC since after college. My friends back there all have much better memories of the people we went to high school with. I think my being out here for so long, without those daily connections to my hometown, has made me forget my highschool classmates much more. When I first got on Facebook and old classmates started contacting me, I really could not remember much about many of them. I remembered the name, but even when I saw a picture of them I could not remember in what context I knew them or how much we even talked. Some of that was because of how much some of them had physically changed since then. But I attribute a lot of it to me being so far removed from my hometown for so long. And my hometown is a larger city.

I'm 33 and went to public school in the Midwest. We moved from another town over right before my freshman year, but the other kids had all been in school together since 6th grade at the latest because there was only one middle school in our town. I think our graduating class had about 400 students. There was a lot of clique crossover, depending on what you were into. Over those 4 years, I had friends in various different groups and I remember maybe 100 people. We were all on Facebook by the time our 10 year reunion rolled around, and it mostly got organized there. Took a lot of the mystery out of the event itself.

My personal favorite part of high school and the internet is that there is this one girl from my class who lies very publicly about her age on her Facebook profile. By almost 10 years. Every time I see it, I kind of want to call her out on it. Then I remember that she was the bitchy one, not me, and I step away from the keyboard.

No. And I had a small class. To be honest, I had a small, tight knot social circle at school, but lived in a different city than most of the students so I rarely saw people after we graduated.
