You obviously must live inside a cave and never read US News and World report or any other major college guide. While Chapman has had growing pains recently and seems to be more concerned with frat life and their students all living in expensive dorms and all getting free Disneyland passes from their rich daddies or is still 'not a school who cannot get into anywhere else.' It was 20 years ago but not anymore. Do you think a school who admits students with an average SAT of 1882 and gpa of 3.74 is a school that takes anyone? Look at the website for once. The school is also a too 6 regional school in USNWR and Hollywood Variety the major film publication in the country has listed Chspman Film as number 7 in the US. I have relatives who are interested in Chapman but outside of film they need to show more improvement especially in Science. Still this is a school that is growing in reputation and in a few years may get to the level of being a well known national university.
I would say Chapman is almost as hard to get into as UCSB and as tough to get into than UC Irvine or Davis. It is way more collectively to get into than Riverside or Merced. Finally unlike the UCs people graduate from Chapman rather than 6 so with decent FA Chapman is not much more expense than mid level UCs. Anyways do some research before you make a statement 'can't get into anywhere else.' Can't get into Ivies or Berkeley yes can't get into Nprthrdidge or Long Beach or Loyola Marymount no.

Chapman is like a large High School, not like a large college. There is really nothing that is visually striking about the school. The city is in Orange, CA - which has a creepy feel to it because thy have preserved all the 1920's era house as is - when you drive around you have the feeling that you are in some old movie. Other cities like Claremont have some natural beauty, but Orange is very strange. I sure wouldn't enroll before going out the see the campus and city.

Creepy? I have no idea where you're from or what your understanding of creepy is, but lots of communities have buildings from the 1920s - including DC - and it's not creepy.

I live in Newport Beach and have driven through Orange many times. It's a decent enough suburban town with one or two really excellent mid-range restaurants and its downtown is what I would call very quaint and pretty.

I will say the college has a reputation for being rather white and conservative. My DD has a friend in his junior year at Chapman and apparently it's not very diverse (racially or socioeconomically) and there are a lot of drugs being used.

I would not send my child to Chapman though. DD went to UC Riverside (we are residents so it was cheap and her grades were quite mediocre) and now is applying to law schools this winter with a 3.74 GPA and 167 LSAT, so she got a very good education at UC Riverside.
