Actually, any 8th grader from fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington, Prince William and Falls Church (whether from expensive areas or not so expensive areas) may apply to attend TJ but you have to live in certain designated areas to attend Langley and McLean so TJ is more of an equal opportunity place as long as the applicant is qualified. You will almost never get equal number of Asians, blacks, Hispanics and whites at a given school. So, TJ is more equal opportunity/diverse than Langley or McLean. You and your neighbors can move to PG county and contribute to their school diversity if that's what you want.

Would love to see a graphing of the SES against this data. Seems like the schools with the greatest diversity have the lowest scores... so gosh, is it really a feather in Langley's hat (or schools with other "top" SAT averages) if they have almost no SES diversity? I mean, it's not like you're comparing apples to apples if you are comparing one school that is 90% white and 98% not FARMs with another school that is 35% white and 60% not FARMS. Are we all supposed to applaud that the first school has a higher average SAT score? Given national achievement gaps on the SATs, it's no surprise that the higher-income school with few minorities (not specifically referencing Langley here) has higher scores than schools with more low income kids and/or minority kids.
the high performing schools have every right to be proud b/c their scores are great -- but it's not a fair comparison when looking at dissimilar schools in FCPS.
Don't you think TJ is pretty well diversified?
Actually, TJ is arguably the most diversified school since this school has kids/parents from all parts of the world including Africa, Caribbean, Far East Asia, Europe, Middle East, Central Asia as well as Hispanics and few other areas. Langley and McLean I think are overwhelmingly white.
Actually, no. TJ already has more Asian students than McLean has white students, and soon will have more Asian students than Langley has white students as well. Just as the term "Asian" includes students from many different countries and backgrounds, so too does "White" in Fairfax County, where it includes, for example, many students from the Middle East and Europe.
And there are very few Hispanics and AA students at TJ compared to any other HS in FCPS, except perhaps Langley.
I thought one measures how diverse a given school is by looking at the % of non-white students including Asian students since Asians are a minority group?

The kids who take the ACT are the ones who do poorly on the SAT. Arguably, by focusing only on the SAT, the scores are artificially inflated.

ACT is not even considered to be legitimate college aptitude test.
