My in-laws are planning a trip for all of us and want dates to get this booked, they're currently running a deal. We're moving into FFX county this summer so I was hoping to see the proposed calendar to know what to tell them.
I am not the person with the draft calendar, but in my 35+ years of working in FCPS, spring break was ALWAYS the full week before Easter. ALWAYS. I would bet that it is the same next year.
That's me.
Yes. The proposed spring break is the week of March 30th.
Next year Easter is March 27. Are you sure that's the correct week for Spring Break?

Anonymous wrote:Any updates on whether FCPS may start before Labor Day this year? Is that a legitimate possibility? Trying to figure out if we need to make plans for that week.

This was my thought. I remember it was part of the deal. Why do even the teachers seem surprised?
Here to stay...
Built in snow days so the school year won't be extended (along with losing the option to get those days back if we don't use them)
2 week winter break
Early release before holidays and at the end of each quarter
And last but not least, getting out of school ridiculously late each year.
I am a teacher and this was never relayed to us at my school so I was surprised. Yes, I realize it was put out in a memo from Ryan Mcelveen and probably elsewhere, but I don't remember seeing it. Especially since so many of those changes came at the end of last year/in the summer.

Both of those counties have waivers to start before Labor Day. Fairfax does not. It has requested the waiver, but it will be denied if it has not already been. While there is a "formula", the decision is largely political and will never happen.
Why would it be denied for us and not them? I would love to start 8/31 and get out the 17th instead of the 24th. It's ridiculous. That's almost July (AGAIN, just like this year - which is what they were trying to avoid, no?).
