Subject: s/o Does anyone on DCUM actually like their in-laws?
I am sure majority of people get along with their MILs. However, the vocal group on this forum is the ones who have miserable marriages, lousy ILs, and snowflake kids.

I feel very lucky with all 4 of my ILs (DH's parents split when he was young, each got remarried again and had 2 more kids so he's got 4 half siblings). Both sides of the family are absolutely lovely, we enjoy time with both. And so far DH and I have the only grandkids so our kids get extra special attention. We've even had difficult situations and conversations (DH and I had 2 of our worst fights ever at one IL home, and his parents comforted me and talked to him!), and I've gotten into it a little with the other ILs about something that was going on with DH, but we continue to be really fond of each other and speak openly and I still enjoy visiting. It is possible!
If anything it's my dad who's kind of the wild card, but DH's family has been very welcoming of him too and he likes them. I feel very very fortunate.

This is how it "should" be. This is amazing. The self righteous whiny ones can stay home.
When I gave birth, MIL would have barged in with a camera taking pics of my Vajayjay. And she wonders why she was not invited in to the delivery room??!!

Yes. They raised a great person whom I adore. They also live on another continent. I love them lots!

I would be crushed if my child felt this way. I guess I have pretty great parents, I can't imagine liking even most wonderful ILs better than them.

Same here. I'm polite to them and they to me.
That's cool. I love that. I daydream about that, sometimes. With my MIL, its her way or no way. She has had a crap life, and thinks, somehow, I am her scapegoat. Sad for her, but I'm not subjecting myself to her nonsense.

I love my in laws. I really feel like I lucked out. We don't have kids, though - if we did, teh relationship might be trickier.

I am a woman who loves her ILs and adores family vacations and family visits. In some ways, I enjoy being around them more than around my own parents (who I also love but who can be demanding or judgmental when ILs have never been either).
