4000 deaths in one part of the world. What if it were 4000 deaths in California and Texas. That is a large number because it is a small area and there are 5 new cases every hour. If it starts spreading to other parts of the world we will now have one of the deadliest viruses that will turn into a world wide pandemic. We can not let it spread to other countries.

Ebola is not very contagious. It is a lot less contagious than most viruses. Yes, it is lethal but that means nothing in terms of epidemiology without considering how contagious it is. There are many reasons why it spread in Africa that do not apply here.

The PP who acknowledged she is generally anxious is at least being honest. I know that every time someone posts something like this, others chime in with justifications for their fear. (It could become airborne! The CDC is lying to us!).

Your level of fear isn't rational. You would feel better if you acknowledged that.

Most people who get the flu don't die from it. Not since 1918. Ebola has a kill rate of over 50%. That is why we don't want it in this country. Africa has been dealing with Ebola since 1976 and every epidemic has been getting worse. We do not want to be dealing Ebola on a yearly basis.

There is probably a lot of logic to the posts that say this is not a reason to panic. However, people who are prone to anxiety, like me, have a real hard time with something like this. You see, we have fear and then believe that we can somehow stop a bad outcome if we do something. To believe there is nothing to worry about, in an anxiety-prone persons mind, is to alow the bad thing to happen b/c we AREN'T worrying about. Damn self-perpetuating cycle! I know I need to not look at any more of these posts, but it's so dang hard!!

Pp clearly isnt concerned. Its boredom or mental iklness that makes people concerned. Since she has no concern, she must not think this is an issue. So she is willing to welcome this disease in. After all, its not a concern to her

I'm not one to worry about stuff like this. I wasn't concerned about SARS or Bird Flu. My daughter was living on a college campus when a menegitis outbreak sickened a lot of kids in her dorm. I just encouraged her to stay away from obviously sick people and wash her hands often.

I am very concerned about Ebola. I don't believe we are getting the truth about the disease from the CDC. I think this could get very bad. I hope I am wrong.
