So there is still time to pick another name. People will see it on a class list in elementary school and think he is a girl. Most of the girls in the class came along with Harper, the only boy at the party.

CATASTROPHE!

No, wait, actually not a catastrophe.

Of course it isn't a catastrophe, just an indicator of things to come. As Harper becomes exclusively a girl's name a boy with the name will have a harder time throughout his life. When he sends in a resume people will think he is a girl, etc. Why name your kid something that makes it slightly more difficult in life.

And so...?

Don't like this name at all. I think of it as a "girl" name and it also makes me think of someone who is always harping on and on about things. A harper aka a nag.

Tell that to all the Pats, Chrises, Alexes and Saschas you know. They seem to be making it work.

DC has in class at school a boy named Sloan and a girl named Avalon. Anything goes.

This would be for a boy so I'm wondering if it is all girl now.

I don't understand why anyone would give a child this name, but I dislike occupational names anyway.

Does anyone actually still play the harp anymore?

LOL - a person who plays the harp is a "harpist," not a "harper."

You think this is a reason not to pick Harper?
