We have been together 7 years - maybe 10-15 times total over the years. Like others have said, big events (events leading up to our wedding, my baby shower, first birthday parties for the kids, etc.). That's it.

They live on opposite sides of the country

They met one Christmas before our wedding and at our wedding. Never otehrwise.

Special events like DCs birthdays or similar. They did do a joint Thanksgiving once and my parents visited them over the summer once but that's not the norm. They do like each other and get along very well (my mother and MIL talk on the phone regularly) but they don't live anywhere near each other so it makes logistics difficult.

My parents and ILs get along quite well and I could even see them hanging out if they lived closer, but they live pretty far apart. They've met twice- once when they were visiting DC at the same time, and then the week of the wedding. Oh and my MIL came to my bridal shower in my hometown, so that's a third time. Our dad's are rather similar, rather introverted but they both like to golf. Our moms are super extroverted and chatty. Although they have very different lifestyles, I could see that getting awkward over time.

Wedding, baby shower, one Thanksgiving at my house. Been married six years. They do not talk on the phone together or email.
