Define "local". Where are you and far are you willing to drive?

Inn at Little Washibgton, and then get a room. We had a room with a beautiful courtyard off of it and had breakfast delivered the next day. But the room was probably$1500 for the night.

Roses luxury reservations were auctioned off at DC's preschool auction. Went for over$5000 iirc. That certainly qualifies as over the top.

The Inn at Little Washington is incredible!

I would go to Volt and get a reservation at Table 21. It's in Frederick but if money is no object, I would just rent a limo to take you. We went for my husband's 50th birthday and it was amazing!

Rose's Luxery is good. But I think a little overrated.

That would allow a nice walk across Lafayette Park afterward, for drinks or dessert on top of the W. (Call and get a reservation for that, if you want a good seat with the view.)

Beware of the enormous rats in the park after dark! Not so romantic.

I like this restaurant but not sure it meets the over the top request.

Oval Room is very Washington, D.C. Lobbyist stuffy. Lots of people looking around to see who is looking at them. It's actually kind of funny to watch how people look past the person they are talking with. I've been there many times. I was a reporter.
