Same here. In-house 30-40hours a week at 250K. I can pretty much come and go as long as I am accessible and answer emails, even on the weekend and sometimes as early as 6:00 a.m. but it is worth the flexibility. It allows me to spend quality time with my kids and get them to their activities without having to hire a nanny or driver. I could make more at a large law firm but want to spend time with my family.

Psychologist in private practice. I work 30 hours a week, set my own hours (some evenings, but also can be home afternoons with kids after school). Gross is around $120k.

Thats because project managers don't actually do anything, they just call meetings and track task lists.

Sort of glorified admin, but PRAISED in large corporate environments, which need lots of project managers to track the real work. We have project managers tracking the project managers. The curse of Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Never had that many PMs before that act was implemented.

Also in house, and a bit more in salary ($215) but more hours. I'd give up $15k to cut my hours to 35!

Big financial services firm in Tysons Corner. Its an exceptional place to work on a lot of levels. Wicked smart people, good pay, good hours, etc.

I'm in PR for a BIG agency, and I have been pleasantly surprised that the work is really flexible (I'm in digital strategy so I can do my work from anyplace with wifi). Pay is good, benefits are good, and it's steady. This is the job I took after I had a kid and politics was kicking my ass. I feel like it's a field that people with a lot of different skill sets can transition into.

OR I would think you are definitely a person with a soft-science background. Tech, STEM fields (albeit NOT usually research or university stem tracks) are higher paying and fewer hours than big law much of the time. Usually these jobs are out in the burbs too, so sometimes they aren't as visible as law, etc that you see downtown!

Govt attorney, $145K, not much telework but a lot of freedom to come and go as long as you get your work done.

I've worked for a number of nonprofits but what I have always found is that the higher you go, especially, (and I'm assuming at 140K you are pretty high in a NP) the hours are just as long as private.

Not saying where. It's largish. And yes, I'm senior staff. I've had two other similar jobs and hours have always been about the same.
