Bowing your head is a sign of respect. Closing your eyes is to block out everything around you and to focus on your prayer. You need not do either in order to say a proper prayer. Only God knows what he likes (despite everyone telling you THEY know what's right

Some have their heads down and eyes closed. Other are looking around, others are staring straight ahead.
