My mother in law believes the exact same thing! It's always tickled me. I think its because she grew up poor on a farm with lots of kids and dammit, if you had one little nice thing to yourself like pretty sheets, you were found to enjoy the heck out of them!

We don't wash the duvet cover as often as the bottom sheet.



Why? What is your logic for that?


The bottom sheet gets dirtier faster than the duvet cover.

+1. And the duvet always ends up scrunched in the middle of the cover after a few days. I'd prefer a duvet since you can get so many more attractive options on a duvet cover, but we have a quilt on our bed since DH can't stand the hassle of a duvet.

I wash our blankets occasionally -- maybe 3 times a year.

I recently stayed for a week with my SIL, who is ALWAYS complaining that they do laundry nonstop. And they do - literally 4-5 monster loads every day. I discovered why. They wash towels every day after they shower. Every day. They wash all blankets and comforters with the sheets every week. (I noticed their comforters looked REALLY tired -- now I know why.)

Putting on a duvet cover takes under a minute, way less time than making a bed with a sheet and comforter every day.
I put the duvet cover inside out, reach inside and grab the two top corners, then grab the two top corners of the duvet/comforter and pull them out the hole at the bottom. Shake a few times, make sure the bottom corners are lined up and then button up.

I wash the duvet cover every time we change sheets (have learned to button it up in the wash or random other things get in there!)


Then I'm doing something wrong, because I need to block off a whole evening to put our king size duvet cover back on. And I'm usually sweating afterwards.


Google a couple videos and see if there isn't another technique that would work better for you.
