I'm the OP of this thread http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/406687.page#5610187 . There's some really good advice regarding private schools. For now, DH and I are not pursuing privates. We've looked at a number of them and, giving the cost, feel that our best course is to continue to invest in an advocate/consultant and supplement with tutoring. It's tough to know what the right decision is. Hugs.

Yes, that's why I'm hiring an advocate. Whatever we do over the coming months, I want to be as informed and supported as possible. It's so hard to even know what a kid will need 6 mos, a year from now, next year - but I know what he's getting right now isn't it.

It varies by school but part of the criteria is significant academic impact which can be defined by the struggle but more easily defined by grades. To get good services I would either stay public and fight for it or if you go private look at schools that are all about providing services like Oakwood in Annandale. Many private schools don't have accomidations or services unless that is what they are known for.
