I don't think anything, generally. Many of my friends in happy marriages don't wear rings sometimes or ever.

If I did see someone who ALWAYS had her rings on and she wasn't wearing them, I might wonder if she had gotten separated without my knowledge, but I probably wouldn't ask outright.

You could wear it on a necklace if you wanted to?

LOL. Seriously?

I always lose my rings and definitely notice I get hit on a lot more by middle aged strangers when I don't wear one. I've even been called out about it by one guy who was ticked when I mentioned my husband during our conversation. So my point is, men do notice. But I personally don't care.

Neither DH or I wear our rings for work related reasons. Nobody ever cared.

Well, dammit OP. I just tried to take off my ring and I can't get it off my now fat finger. Argh.

Since I don't wear my ring, I never assume anything about a person's marital status based on what is on their ring finger.

This reminds me of my mom who always signed school forms Mrs. John Smith. When I asked her why, she said so people would know she was married. ( I am an older mom, so this was a while ago).

Isn't that what you do when your husband is dead?

If you recently lost quite a bit of weight- that is what they will be noticing.

That her fingers got fat after having kids.

I haven't been wearing mine much lately either - new baby, little time to think about these things, a little extra baby weight plus summer makes them uncomfortable, SAH part time, in grad school part time... No one cares. I shower and brush my teeth every morning - I consider that enough of a win.

We're doing home renovations and I take it off frequently so I don't damage it and forget to put it back on. I've seen coworkers notice but they don't say anything.

Another vote for it not mattering. The only situations in which I look for a ring are something like if I'm trying to gauge if a new coworker is married or if my kid's new friend has a dad at home (both out of curiosity more than anything else). If I see a ring, I take that as evidence they are married. If I don't see a ring, I don't make a judgement either way as there are many reasons someone would choose not to wear one.

I'd either not notice or if we had any sort of friendship I'd ask you quietly if everything was okay because I noticed you weren't wearing your ring.
