Don't take out your phone, ipod, etc near the doors as someone else mentioned. Easy was for thieves to grab and run when the doors open.

Thanks for the advice. We are back from our trip and thanks to the pre-paid metrocard, google maps, the DC Metro app, and standing to the right, all suggested by you guys, we had a great time. We even made it through Friday holiday evening rush hour at Union Station. We also used Uber & Lyft once each (free first ride, couldn't beat that).

One last question, how is Farragut pronounced?
