That bread machine I bought back in 1993 was a pretty big waste.

Spent a boatload on a doula and then ended up with a scheduled c-section. We knew there was a chance I would have a c-section and was aware that contractually she was not obligated to do anything in that situation, but she ended up making a lot of money for very little work (except some support pre-delivery). If I were in her shoes I would have returned some of the money.

All the ugly dresses I bought being in weddings and everything else I had to pay for to be in the wedding.

None of them lead to a child... we did end up adopting but gave a lot of money upfront to two agencies, a facilitator and three attorneys. (ending up getting a private adoption several years later and had to fire yet another attorney and ended up with a good one). We wasted about $40,000-50,000 on trying to adopt. Our actual adoption was reasonable if you take all that out.

The co-op - my child got nothing out of the program. The other parents ignored the kids who weren't theirs. He was always in a dirty diaper on pick up, they ignored his food allergies (sent our own food but touched him after touching the allergic food), and it was basically a holding cell (and when I co-oped I spent three hours cleaning and doing diapers as the teacher said she would not do them nor had the other parents help). We only stayed for a year.

$800 on pain free laser hair removal. didnt work. the regular laser hair removal (with pain) worked great!

My wedding. DH wanted a party so I caved. Now even he admits it was not worth it.

A week summer beach rental with a toddler. Between illness, exhaustion, the long drive, eating out every night, I wish I had stayed home and saved 2 grand.

What pattern? I use mine two to three time a year. I figure over the course of the last twenty years, it has been worth it. Same for the silver and crystal- although we use the crystal more often.

1.) High end appliances...they didn't preform any better and had a shorter shelf life then my middle of the line maytag ones beforehand. I am a pretty decent cook so I thought I would be able to tell a difference and really enjoy them but it just wasn't the case.
2.) Montessori preschool for DC 1 and 2. It was not a bad school, just super over priced. I found a little church basement preschool for DC 3 that did the exact same thing for about 60% less.

I absolutely hate my Samsung dishwasher. The only cycle that cleans anything is "heavy". I started it this morning at 10am and it is STILL RUNNING AT NEARLY 1 PM. The prongs also make for awkward placement of dishes/pans. I was SO much happier with our Frigidaire Gallery dishwasher in our previous home but DH wanted all Samsung.
