Thanks, PP. I just returned from vacation and saw your post. BSA has not reinstated the UUA Religious Award. What has happened is that a bunch of UU Boy Scout Leaders have formed an organization called UU Scouters, have written their own award program and made the emblems available through PRAY. http://www.uuscouters.org/

The organization - UUSO - is recognized by the Boy Scouts - not the UUA national program. The awards listed as Unitarian Universalist in the BSA publication comes from this group.

The curricula is different.

Nothing has changed with the UUA and BSA. There are many fine people in BSA trying to bring about change, including the UU Scouters, but there are fundamental differences that will not be reconciled any time soon.

When I looking into Campfire (I was a Campfire girl in NE) there were no troops in VA. Female or male. I am glad you were able to start a troop at your Congregation. Also the BSA reinstated the UU Religious badge a few years ago.

There are clubs in the DC Metro area, but not as many as there once was. Camp Fire was for girls, but has been for boys and girls for almost 40 years. We meet at Cedar Lane in Bethesda.

Where is this? I vaguely remember Camp Fire Girls ads when I was a kid. Is it for both boys and girls?

At what grade does Boy Scouts start, by the way?

Generally it starts in 6th grade.

If you have been a Cub Scout and earned your Arrow of Light, some of the 5th grade Webelos might cross over to Boy Scouts earlier, like in February.

Boy Scouting is for boys who are 11 years old, or at least 10 years old but finished 5th grade.
