Can anybody tell me how much the houses cost out there? Somebody mentioned it is like Potomac. Its got to be wayyyyyy cheaper, right?

For commuting to DC, Davidsonville is easier than living in the communities that are right on the water. But, you will be close enough that you can get out there whenever you want to just sit on a dock, have ice cream in downtown Annapolis, go to some of the local beaches on the bay or enjoy waterfront dining. Its all within 10-20 minutes of Davidsonville.

Hi OP! DC Transplant here! I'm happy that you decided to take the leap! It took us about 3 years of looking, debating, looking again before deciding on Davidsonville. I've honestly never looked back! Would love to meet up for a chat at some point! After DC, you are going to be happy to have the space, the garage, the yard to just let the kids go out and play and the very friendly neighbors. And, you will meet plenty of other people who moved to Davidsonville from DC, Alexandria, Bethesda, etc.

As for restaurants, Nova is our favorite sushi. Its in Edgewater - its in a strip mall next to a kmart and you wouldn't know it from the outside, but its great. Ok, maybe not Spices great, but pretty great. Awe Shack is decent for Afghan in Crofton. Vin 909 in Annapolis is a great wine bar, but no reservations so get there early. Grapes Wine Bar in Annapolis is also a good choice. Jalapenos in Annapolis is good for tapas. You will find lots of choices. Good luck!

Lots of people commute from Annapolis to DC. Longish commute but not a huge deal

Honestly, it depends on where in DC and where in Davidsonville. Yes, it's going to take longer to get to Georgetown or Cleveland Park.

Good lord. That commute would be awful. I think the sub-60 minutes posters must leave really early and forget when car crashes cause delays.

Co-worker lives in Davidsonville and she drivers the 50 to the New Carrolton Metro station. Then trains it right to our office. She says the commute is pretty simple and takes just under 60 minutes door-to-door (no transfer necessary, our K Street office is right above the Metro station).

I've driven through Davidsonville and it looks pretty to me. It had lots of huge homes that remind me of Potomac.

I don't know if this has already been explicitly mentioned, but Davidsonville isn't on the water. It's suburbia and caters primarily to the Washington region. You're still some distance from the water and most people in Davidsonville won't have boats or be hanging out on the water. It's not the same as living in Annapolis proper.

Anne Arundel County is interesting because there's a sharp divide between waterfront and non-waterfront that's sometimes just a block deep. I love the waterfront and it would be fabulous to have a house on the water on in a community with waterfront privileges and a boat and I know people who grew up in Annapolis and from their descriptions their childhood was a blast. But non-waterfront Anne Arundel seems very ordinary and not particularly pretty to me.

And, there are tons of people who do the commute every day. Not everybody can afford to live in Georgetown. Its a longish commute, but probably no worse than coming into DC from Reston, Woodbridge, or other places people commute from. And, the public transit options are not bad between MARC, Metro and the Commuter buses. Its definitely doable. Like anything in the DC area, it depends on what you want and what you are willing to trade off in order to have the size/type of house and associated lifestyle that intersts YOU - not what other random and annon people on a blog think you should do!!
