The list seems a little strange - Carleton and Notre Dame are both better than either the University of Chicago or Columbia? Williams is better than MIT?

I guess I'd have to read the methodology to figure out why that makes sense by their lights.

As a general matter though, it would be great if somebody could break USNWR's hegemony. Then kids wouldn't feel like they needed to make a "top 20" or whatever school, because "top 20" would have many definitions. I know there are already a gazillion rankings, but so far none only 1-2 international rankings have seriously challenged USNWR.

Not with Williams as no. 1.

Williams has always been a op notch school.

Williams combines the focus and attention of a tiny lac with the recruiting/network/access to jobs of an ivy - there's a reason why its the number one lac in the country.

Bucolic location, but can either be suffocatingly isolated which is probably the biggest downside to the school but no school is perfect

The Money list that just came out is less impressed with Williams, ranking it behind the likes of the Maine Maritime Academy and the Webb Institute.

Hey, don't be dissing Carleton.

I'm sure Carleton is a great place, but placing it above some of the other schools on that list seemed odd to me.
