I am an attorney in a law firm. I rarely go to court and sometimes need to meet clients. DH is a teacher. We have two school age girls. I'd say we run $1-2K per year on clothes, mostly dependent on whether I need new clothes.

We shop at Walmart, Target, Old Navy and Kohls, but the last two only when there is a sale. I do not buy new clothes for the girls unless they have outgrown what they have (we do splurge on first day of school clothes, which together for both this year cost $25). I shop at weather changes and growth spurts for the kids, but not more. I have bought one new dress this summer. One. I got two as gifts from my mom. I wear basic pumps or flats that go season to season. I have not bought new shoes this year at all. I bought $300 worth of new dresses last summer (probably 8 dresses when I got done), which I am wearing this summer too, but they came from Kohls at 30% off of the sale prices. I used my Kohls cash to then go to the store and get two free pairs of pants via the kiosk/web. I used the kiosk so that I would not have to pay shipping on the free pants. I topped off the free order (which was less than my total Kohls cash), by buying socks and tights for the girls.

It can be done, but I never, never, never pay a non-sale price anywhere but Walmart.

I grew up poor, my mom made a lot of my clothes, and bought the rest at K-mart. I know what it is like to be wearing ugly clothes, and I won't do it, nor will I do it to my kids. I just also refuse to shop at any overpriced clothing shop. My clothes get complimented a lot, because they fit well and look good.

I'm not the previous poster but they probably look fine depending what it is.
Most of my older clothes don't look shabby because I didn't wear them much.

In recent years, around 1K per person per year. So 2.5K to 3K for a family of 3

I think I underspend on clothes according to this thread.

Too much!!! We budget (and spend) $600 per month on clothes, shoes, accessories. DH is big law, I am SAHM, we have three kids between the ages of 9 and 5. I bank the budget some months so that I have more to spend in August and March.

My hats off to those that only spend $500 per year! Everyone does what works best for their family.

I'm shocked how little people spend on clothes. Maybe I'm just bad at money (ok, I am definitely bad at money) - but don't you get bored with your wardrobe and just want some new stuff sometimes?

I probably spend a couple of thousand per year on clothes for myself, including shoes, coats, bags, underwear, etc.

Husband spends, I'm guessing, $1000 per year on clothes, including shoes.

We rent, no kids. So that's also a big factor, I'm sure.

My clothing numbers are real. I'm astonished people pay so much for clothing--have difficulty believing how high hr numbers are. Seriously we rarely buy clothes... Why do adults need to buy so many new clothes? My closets are full! I have too many.

I last bought a suit in 2001. I wear a suit 4 times per year, work in nonprofit so dress is casual.

Probably about $5,000 a year for a family of four, including shoes. Being honest. For the adults, it's quality, not quantity as we hope to stay the same size, a suit about $2,000 for example. The kids are gifted about 90% of their clothes from their very generous grandparents, we supplement with what else is needed (like this year they will need new snow boots and bibs, uniform clothes, etc).

I'm not sure but it's minimal. We are adults so we don't need new stuff much. I don't think my DH has bought anything new this year beyond socks and underwear. I got a new bathing suit and shoes. So me: $200. Him: $10. We have one child who is mainly clothed through gifts and thrift store finds but I've bought him new shoes and sandals this year so let's say $100. That's probably high.

I probably spend around 1000-1500 per year for myself. That includes new athletic shoes and clothes (I exercise a lot, the stuff wears out), as well as new undergarments. I have a hormone problem though and my body weight and shape fluctuate a bit, so I probably own more clothes than I would otherwise. I also buy certain types of gear (e.g. ski pants, sport swim suit).
