We paid a photographer $250 to meet DD at a local park to take outdoor pics. The next day, via Dropbox, we had a hundred pics. From those pics I made a yearbook ad, and ordered grad announcements from cardchef. DS, on the other hand preferred to use a cropped pic from a recent vacation for the yearbook ad, grad announcements and party invites. Nothing about "$1000s for a photoshoot."

I understand where you're coming from, PP. Things have changed....look at all the focus on destination weddings, etc. with multiple photo shoots now that wasn't around 20 years ago (not widely, anyway). This has all trickled down to HS. Now they have Prom-posals and expensive photo shoots when they graduate.
I agree that some of it is over the top, but I guess it's to be expected in an age of Facebook and Instagram.

Wow. I graduated from hs on '94 in ny and did not have a class ring, a school jacket, senior pictures, a graduation party or a yearbook. I think my older sister had a graduation party and a yearbook. I guess she doesn't think of it as the "nice memory" you guys are referencing because I don't think she's looked at the yearbook in well over a decade if not two.

You don't "graduate" from ES/MS even though I know that is a "thing" these days. You move on to MS from ES and from MS onto HS. It is expected. Graduating HS is a special moment and a time of transition in a young person's life where Senior pictures are sometimes done.

You implied that if you're going to take HS graduation pictures, you should also take ES and MS grad pictures because they're also 'special moments.' I say that if you really don't see the difference between the 'special moment' of graduating from high school and graduating from ES/MS, then you're not very smart.

Subject: Best areas for senior pictures?
Most schools have a photographer come in for the photo day. One in robes and other in a suit or school uniform. Similar to the ones you get every year. But with seniors they have an option of holding a book etc. Nice memories and they use them in the yearbook.

With college expenses looming, I don't understand why the needless expense when the school-produced ones turn out so well. Save the money for graduate school.
We did our daughters and they cost about $400. That could maybe buy you a college book.
