I went through the last several pages and deleted several messages. The thread is down to 96 pages not. Of those 96, I've only read from 92 on. So, if there are inappropriate messages remaining, someone will have to flag them for me.

Just thanks. Moderation of a board like this must be more art than anything and I appreciate you don't let things run completely out of control but that you also allow for candor at times. We're all hopefully adults and can take it with the grain of salt it deserves, but I come here to read (and post) about things that would be tough to say openly. I'm Ron about what that means, but I'll take the double-edge before I take nothing.

I will stress again that much of the moderation of this forum requires making subjective decisions. I am happy to listen to input, but ultimately I am the one who will decide and what I decide may well depend as much on how much sleep I got the night before as it does anything else. Generally, linking to public information is not a problem. But, at some point, it can become a form of harassment. At what point? Who knows? But, if I think it has reached that point, I will stop it. I am not saying it happened in that thread, but just to forewarn you that simply because something is public doesn't mean that I'll put up with it.

Second and more importantly, by "calling out", I am really referring to statements such as "Ms. XXX is a lazy drunk who plays favorites with left-handed students." That may well be true and you may have absolute proof of it. If you want to post it in DCUM, by all means, as long as you identify yourself in a verifiable manner. Similarly, employers generally are not at liberty to disclose personnel information. So, I have a very low tolerance for people saying that "so and so was fired" or "asked to resign" or what have you. If you know that because you were part of the process, you shouldn't be telling anyone. If you weren't part of the process, you shouldn't know that and shouldn't be telling others. If the matter somehow becomes public, I may view it differently.

I think you should always consider how you would react if the sort of thing you are posting about someone was posted about you. If you wouldn't like it, the person about whom you are writing probably won't either. There has been more than one case of a poster arguing that he/she should be able to post something about someone else, but later complaining about something that was posted about them. If you find yourself in that circumstance, you may well find that I got very little sleep the previous night and have very little patience.
