You really believe your mom's weight will bring down properly values? And the fact that she shops at Target? You can't be for real. You just can't be. I thought the existence if people like you was an urban legend. How does your therapist not vomit in her mouth while you share these things? Most of us here have advanced degrees and shop at whole foods and are appalled at your shallowness. If you really are for real then I should ease up on you because clearly you are deeply insecure and I should feel sad for you but ugh...

Don't kid yourself. You do not love her. No one can say such horrible things about a person and love that person. No way in hell.


OP has a massive inferiority complex and is trying to fill it with stuff and by putting on a good face. Her mom reminds her that she is not her zip code.


You know, I want to cry for the OP's mum and I don't even know her. That poor, poor lady. I hope she has other children who actually love and value her, and not only this mean should-have-been-an-abortion "daughter".

This is something wrong with you, not her. She's a smart lady, who has had some setbacks in her life and is now retired. You're not worried about something being wrong with your mom. You are worried that something is wrong with YOU. What do you think people are going to think about you if they see your mom? Do you think it's true? If it's not true, you have to convince yourself that it is not true. You have to believe it. If it is true, you have to convince yourself that it is okay that it's true.

OP, if you feel that way about your mom, woman up and cut ties with her. That would at least show some backbone. You lack even that. You keep having a relationship with her and then you trash talk her on the Internet for ridiculous reasons.

My own mom doesn't have the slightest idea about IT devices, she's underweight and she's hardly a top-model looks-wise. Guess what? None of that matters in the slightest to me. She's a wonderful mom and I love her to bits. Who the hell is embarrassed about her mom because of lack of IT knowledge. Seriously.

She doesn't feel bad enough to stop feeling ashamed of her mother BECAUSE HER MOTHER USES A MOBILITY AID. And I don't care why that lady uses it. Being ashamed of a loved one because that person needs a mobility aid is past awful, mean, nasty, and unempathetic. Someone who feels like that is beyond redemption and, quite frankly, should just go jump in a lake.

There is nothing we can do to help you become less judgmental. That has to come from inside of you and come from a compassion for others stemming from a sense of security in yourself. Right now you show neither. Nothing is an unattractive as someone acting superior to others, especially when those others are people who love them the most.

Look inward. You need to make those changes yourself.

+1 being cruel to her because she is unsophisticated is an embarrassment. Sophisticated means nithing if you are unevolved as a human being. The only way to overcome this is to become a better person who doesn't put more value on being a regular at whole foods than being a kind, tolerant person. Don't know how to advise you to get there if you're not horribly embarrassed by your own post (which you should be!).
