All my friends mothers are tall and regal and are enjoying life at 66 and then I bring along my WT mom who loves to watch the weather channel and calls every single relative to talk about the weather in their town. "Oh aunt Susan says it's raining in Michigan today" "Aunt B. says it was really hot in Carmel, In this morning." No one cares. That's stuff uneducated people talk about. I'm so happy she's progressive politically or she would never meet our friends. Yesterday she wanted to sit in the front and "look at the neighborhood". Great way to drive down property values seeing this fat lady with her clothes from Target sitting out here. It takes her a minute to climb into my SUV because she's so fat. She talks with her mouth full (something she told me not to do as a kid). I could go on and on about the stuff she does. BTW my mom has a masters degree in child psychology and taught at a prestigious private school. She had an accident in 1999 and had surgery to clip nerves in her brain. After that she's been bumbler. She retired at 60 and the last 6 years has just put on weight.
Oh and I feel really really bad for feeling like this. I just had to write that to get it out. But I really love her.
Do you read what you're writing? And then you wonder why we are "mean" to you? Who on this Earth says that their Mum brings down property value because she's fat and wear cheap clothes? How can you even say something like that? How do this kind of thoughts even enter your mind at all.
Don't kid yourself. You do not love her. No one can say such horrible things about a person and love that person. No way in hell.
OP has a massive inferiority complex and is trying to fill it with stuff and by putting on a good face. Her mom reminds her that she is not her zip code.

Anonymous wrote:OP said she feels bad for how she treats her mom -- she is asking for help stopping it. What is your advice, rather than scolding her for doing it?
Anonymous wrote:My mom is here to spend a few weeks with us this summer and every time she comes over I'm so mean to her. The thing is my mom is very unsophisticated and I seem to snap at every question she asks. She's a rube a Clampett and everything from. It knowing what an iPad is used to do to thinking a backup camera is "futuristic". And she's overweight and uses a cane so I'm embarrassed to take her out in public. She thought whole foods was "magical". Ugh. But when she leaves I feel really bad.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Op again. It's probably because my mom represents where I came from and I run hard to get away from it. She's not a bad person. She's actually very tolerant. She's just unsophisticated.
Well, apparently so are you - since anyone who was truly sophisticated would have enough class and decency not to resent the person who brought her into the world and raised her simply for being unfamiliar with consumer product innovations. Knowing what a backup camera is doesn't make you sophisticated. Knowing how to treat people well might. Try working on that OP.
