Uh, what is there to straighten out? Sounds like it was only OP's husband who harassed the woman who complained about their encounter.

We have had applicants show nude or revealing pictures of themselves either in person or on fb. Embarrassing and inappropriate. The men feel that it is a set up. Here is the new hire and on fb are her boobs and everything else. Very awkward.

OP, your husband is unaware of how this situation is viewed by women and he is really tone-deaf to how hostile work environments are created.

He sees the group fun discussion as one in which everyone was participating and everyone was laughing and amused. However in most of these situations there are "frozen" participants who are not amused who feel they have to go along for the ride and there are also bystanders who are usually quite offended and who gossip afterward or who report the event up the chain. So, essentially, we have your DH who feels there was a good time had by all, and is clueless to the fact that others were offended or shocked by the original discussion.

Then your DH continues the talk of nude photos, interjecting it into a HIRING conversation. At that point he's really dead to rights. I mean, this is downright scary. He needs and deserves to be (1) left out of any hiring decision at this company (2) educated on the fact that if this candidate is not hired, he's a walking lawsuit (3) his idea of a joke is not shared and not funny.

Yes, he probably just talked without thinking. But he really can't do that. He can't decide that the workplace is his frat house. And the rest of his coworkers need education too. This "bull pen" atmosphere is obviously not conducive to work.

What, you think that last bastion of good old boy 1950's locker room activity needs to be protected? Sorry, but you need to grow up and realize that the world is a different place than it was 50 years ago and that type of behavior is no longer appropriate.

Maybe all it will take is firing some of the older white males who just can't seem to realize that they can't sit on white privilege and make everyone else take it. It would be a good start.

For the record, I'm female. And I think there's a line between harassment and having fun with your friends. Obviously somehow he crossed her lines without knowing it and I guess that's wrong, but where's the line between joking with friends and being careful of every communication with a co worker. He was continuing on a stupid joke from earlier in the day, not threatening to fire her if she didn't sleep with him. No one should feel threatened or uncomfortable in their workplace, but everyone doesn't have to be hypersensitive all the time either. I've had issues with co-workers before and because they were obviously well intentioned, nice and a bit retro, it was easily sorted out with a 2 minute face to face discussion.

He is lucky he wasn't fired. No one is irreplaceable and I have seen people fired for much more minor inappropriate behavior. Why keep around someone with such poor judgment when there are 100 eager job seekers out there?
