It's been a while since we ate there, but we really liked Jackie's in Silver Spring when we lived nearby.

Founding Farmers is a step up from TGI Friday's.

+1 and I think the same person trains their waitstaff.

So agree. I can't understand why people think this place is so great.

Volt in Frederick. After traffic has dies down it is 25 minutes there from Rockville.

And it is fine dining with great service, great food and atmosphere.

Absolutely no on Clyde's. I like the suggestion for Blue Duck Tavern. Its not my absolute favorite place, but I think it fits the bill for what you are looking for OP.

+2 for Blue Duck Tavern

If you want to stay in Chevy Chase, I love the Capital Grille in Friendship Heights for a dependably fantastic steak house dinner.

Seriously? Ripple is fine dining?

Not PP but I like Ripple a lot. I took OP not to be saying what is the nicest restaurant in DC, but what is a good (nonethnic) restaurant for adults. (Komi btw doesn't even take reservations for 5.)

Ripple PP here. Yes, I took it that OP was looking for a nice place, not "fine dining." Her own listed options make it clear she's not looking for the highest if high-end experience$. But thanks for your snotty post. You really added a lot of value to this thread.

Not the PP, but OPs title specifically asks for fine dining. What about that is unclear? I like Ripple to, but suggesting it is no more helpful to the question OP sakes asked than pointing out that you didn't answer the question. Less, actually, since OP might mistakenly believe that Ripple is in fact fine dining.

Seriously? OP's original ideas were range, black salt, and 2 upscale steakhouses. I think Ripple fits perfectly well with those. And you think looking at the thread title and being snide about what meets your standards for fine dining is more helpful than people offering suggestions for other similar restaurants?

Drive out to Alexandria for Restaurant Eve then take a walk down to the river.
