I tried some swim shorts and have never gone back. I find them to be more comfortable and I'd rather have a bit more coverage while chasing a kid around the beach and pool. What you probably need to do is try on a different styles of tankini tops to see which type look better. Some are more form fitting, and some loose and flowing (some a bit too loose). I like the longer ones, because no one needs to see a hint of my flabby tummy.

I'm the one who first posted about ruching. FYI, I ordered several from department stores to be delivered to my house and returned what I didn't want. Tried to go try on at Saks and they don't me they don't carry suits in store any more, only online and Bloomingdales, but they didn't have nearly the selection in store. Not all ruching is created equal, so try a few is my suggestion. Some have ruching up higher toward the abs and not down at the bottom, which is where you need it for a c-section issue. Like this one, that someone else posted, wouldn't work for me.

I find tankinis best for covering a belly. I also bought a swim skirt for the first time ever this year in Miami. I actually thought it was cute and more flattering than some of the regular bathing suit bottoms due to its cut. The brand was Beach Vista and I can't seem to find a link, but I bought it at Macy's.
