I agree. What, are they gonna challenge your dd and say "your parents aren't serious about pool rules". If that's a message that you think would be unbelievable perhaps you should start conveying that message, this is the perfect opportunity. Maybe something like, "sorry, my parents are super serious about this, I'd get in a lot of trouble" if that sounds more like you.

This. The next time this annoying friend comes over, you should review the pool rules. Number one is no swimming if you are not home. Period. If that ever happens, the pool is closed to all guests for the rest of the summer. Because no matter how laid back you are, you would be very serious about anything that could cause serious injury or death to a child, right? And swimming unsupervised is one of those things. So maybe the "grounded for a year" line wouldn't work, but surely your daughter can honestly say that you are very serious about enforcing the pool rules?
