People need to research the history of how water fluoridation came about. The real history behind it. Also how fluoride was used to kill bugs, insects, and rats before they started haphazardly feeding to infants and children.

What kind of parent would intentionally feed their child a bio accumulative rat poison that could potentially destroy their children's teeth? Or damage their brains? Harvard compares fluoride to lead, mercury and other poisons but parents would willing feed it to their infant or child? Seriously? When did a doctor or dentists do lab work on your child to determine a fluoride ion deficiency? Little do you know that you are relying on nothing more than pseudoscience. The scientific method has been discarded when it comes to fluoride. And you should be asking, why?

OP, when we were drinking well water, we got fluoride drops for the children from the pediatrician. Now we're drinking municipal water.

Sodium fluoride and hexafluorosilicic acid used for water fluoridation are not naturally occurring calcium fluoride. They are much more toxic to the body. Fluoride isn't a nutrient either. Once calcium is removed from naturally occurring calcium fluoride, you are left with a biocide/pesticide/rodenticide. Calcium is a fluoride antagonist in the body. Calcium is also used as an antidote to fluoride poisoning. Calcium fluoride cannot be used as a pesticide or rodenticide due to the calcium content. Just wondering why they're removing this calcium from naturally occurring calcium fluoride? Do they think they're treat a rodent problem?

Before creating toothpaste and putting it on the market, people used baking soda and water to brush their teeth with. Baking soda can help neutralize acidic foods and beverages. It works fine. It's just not sweet and minty like fluoridated toothpaste.

I had done research on fluoride years ago and no longer remember where the majority of my info came from. Meaning I can't post specific links but I'm sure a google search will yield results.

Fluoride is a by product of mining and it is essentially chemical waste that contaminated our waterways. During the panic of having to do a major clean up it was discovered to have dental benefits. There are regions of Italy where it naturally occurs in the water. Teeth are great but there is wide spread heart disease that doesn't fit in with the numbers from the rest of the country. Diets are the same, amounts of alcohol consumed and smoking are the same. The only difference is the fluoride.

A friend of mine is a gem cutter and she has beautiful pieces of fluorite, the mineral from which we get fluoride, and she must be very careful cutting it. She needs to have a lot more water so there is zero dust and wear a mask. Otherwise it is dangerous and toxic. No one in her lapidary club will go near the stuff. That alone should be telling. Yet we put it in our water and encourage people to drink it and tell them it is beneficial.

Our pediatrician actually does not recommend fluoride for kids until it they are having obvious problems with tooth health. At that, he only recommends a lentil-size dab of toothpaste -- not the drops/supplement. Beyond that, he recommends using a xylitol-based paste. Our dentist wants us to use fluoride 3xs a day, but ... no way.

All that said - I have horrid teeth (despite a lifetime of fluoridated water, pastes, sealants, flossing, etc.) and want to give my son a good start. We use a xylitol-based paste (earth paste) morning and afternoon. Before bed, we floss (just getting into the habit) and use a tongue scraper. Then we use a lentil-size dab of paste, rinse, then follow with a thorough brushing with the earth paste. If we are out during the day and he has had a sugary snack, I give him a few Spry lemon mints. So far, so good. He's 3.5 and had 3 good dental checkups.

What does your dentist recommend? Maybe see what s/he suggests after examining your child's teeth.
