Well, a couple thoughts on this...

1. $3,000 might be average rent, but you can find crappy places for <$1500. We'd go for one of those.
2. Private school tuition for ONE kid... not more than one, though.


Really? Where are the apartments inbounds for Janney, Murch, Lafayette key or Mann that are less than $1500 and that will allow two individuals to live there? Or did you mean to advise " lie and claim you're living in someone's basement with no separate kitchen" -- the only living quarters I've seen in ward 3 for under $1500 since 2002.

Yeah DC also says a couple can't live in a studio or a couple and baby can't live in a 1 bedroom....how many people follow that? Again OP already stated intent commit fraud and not really live there (at least full time). You're concerned with the details. A PP is simply saying you can rent a cheap place for $1500. I stated earlier why not just rent a room if you're going to cheat or better yet just lie about address on pay stub. I can change my address to 6000 Wisconsin Ave tomorrow and my pay check on Friday will show new address.

I posted about friends who do this and there's absolutely no fraud. They rented out the house they own and rented a house in the boundary of the school they wanted.

That's different. That's choosing to actually live in the house you rent in order to get into the school you want. What OP and others are describing is retiring a place they have no intention of actually residing in in order to qualify for the residency requirements of the school they want. Pretending that you live somewhere you do not live, whether it's a rental apartment or a relative's home, is absolutely dishonest.

I know a family who rented IB for a WOTP school while their EOTP home was being renovated - and stayed WOTP.

They just needed to provide proof of residency once. The Principal knew what they were doing and allowed it.

LOL. I didn't add the disclaimer to feel superior, I added it to clarify my question (I imagine the regulations are very different for establishing DC residency vs. school boundaries). The people WOTP enjoying their nice schools are benefiting from my income taxes, so, I will still sleep at night.

We are going to 'move in' with grandpa. I don't feel bad, at all. I pay DC taxes and will do right by my family.


I don't have a problem with DC residents doing this for OOB. Who cares?

If DC is going to go after anyone, it should be the MD and VA residents who are using grandpa's address for free prek3/prek4 and shutting out DC kids.
