+1. We didn't have the money for hotel vacations growing up. When DH and I started to vacation with DD1, she could sleep anywhere and through anything. Now with DD2, she actually wakes in a separate room when she hears the floorboards creak. We've tried getting her used to noise, as I don't believe in everyone being silent for the baby, but it's almost two years of her waking with loud coughing, voices, etc. So yes, she needs a separate room.

My 1 year old son sleeps from 7pm-9am at home in his own room. If we have to share a room while travelling he will wake roughly every 3 hours and whinge or cry. It's because he senses I'm nearby or he can see me and it takes a long time for him to go back to sleep. So therefore when we travel I always book him a seperate bedroom. I had no troubLe sleeping with my family members while on hiday but sadly my son does not share this trait. It's really the best thing for me and my son as we both get a decent sleep. Don't be so quick to judge parents who decide to sleep there kids in another room.

I literally never traveled with my parents. I'd travel with my nanny, and we'd share a hotel room with two big beds. When I was 16 I traveled with my father and he'd get suites with two bedrooms.

As an adult with a family, when we just had one baby she could sleep anywhere - we often put her out on the balcony to fall asleep. Now that we have two babies we get two bedroom suites. It's just easier that way. I like to be comfortable when traveling and don't think that my kids should have to "make do" - if we can afford for them to be comfortable, then why not?

The last thing I want on vacation (key word here) is to be crammed in a small room with kids who have particular sleeping schedules. Really, why would my spouse and I want to be in bed by 8 every night? I'd rather just stay home.

My toddler goes to bed at 7:30 every night. My DH and I don't want to be in bed so early.

OP admitted a limited budget so it's not simply a parenting "choice". I don't understand why someone is so perplexed over an issue that is fairly obvious: more room allows parents to have more time to themselves, enjoy couple time etc.

Well, in our case we have a larger budget that we are happy to utilize when it means once the kids are asleep we don't have to tip toe around. If money were a concern we'd be okay with 1 bedroom but we certainly enjoy our vacation time more when we have 2.

Also I think it becomes easier to share when they are older, sleep better, and have later bedtimes. I think back in the day, parents didn't travel as much with babies and toddlers as much as we do today.

There is nothing I love more than self-righteous parents who have great sleepers and who can't wrap their minds around the fact that some kids sleep very poorly. Here's a news flash OP: it's luck or maybe genetics, not your fantastic parenting.

We get suite arrangements because we can damned well afford it. My parents could not when I was a kid. And quite frankly, DH and I need the sleep in order to drive anywhere the next day, unless DD6 and DD1 think they're going to be able figure out the steering wheel and pedals on short notice.

For the first six years of DS' life, we traveled around Europe and had a live-in nanny who slept in an adjoining room with DS. This was something we wanted to do before he started school. We were not raised this way. We both have made our relationship a priority. 15 yrs into the marriage and very strong.

I like to stay in an Embassy Suites type hotel with two beds. Kid goes to sleep in one of the beds in the bedroom; we stay up in the living room for a while longer. I've done the one room thing when I had to, but much prefer some separation.

That may work fine and dandy for you, but some kids just need routine and having mom and dad in the room with them will prevent them from sleeping and make them very cranky.

I don't roll my eyes and criticize you for your parenting style.... Instead of rolling your eyes, how about recognizing that not every family does things the same way? Hmmm...tolerance? Just an idea.....

OP I agree with you. I roll my eyes at this too. Growing up, we shared a room with 2 double beds. We do it now. Every single trip! And we have no issues at all. Perhaps those who struggle with kids who cant/wont drop just anywhere need to train them such as they sleep train them. Seriously. Vacation is just that, a time to have fun. I love having my kids right there in the room with us. So what if they dont fall asleep right at 7. It is vacation time. Give a little parents. It isnt going to hurt them!!!
