My friend's parents had to hire security at her wedding in case the grooms mom showed up

Geez, why are people getting so upset? Crazy MIL stories are fun! I enjoy reading them, so rock on, OP!!

NP here- no sh1t. I hope my kids find people they truly love and respect and want to spend their life with. I also know that I would never in a million years do either one of those things as a MIL- thus, they are amusing.

OP here. I suspect it was a little bit of both.

+1 You're exaggerating. As a wedding guest, I couldn't have cared less.

My mil wore the same exact style as three of my bridesmaids but in a different color. They all chose their dresses and a few of them picked the same style. She later admitted to someone else that she thought it would be fun to match "the other girls" as she said.

Wow, my mother in law showed up in the exact same thing, too. Except she's a nice person. I think she may have been embarrased...

I think so -- I think they are misguided but trying to do the right thing (what they imagine the right thing to be).

But then, you would expect that reason to have come up during the weeks and weeks of begging for a picture, right? At some point MIL would say, "But Bride, how will I match your mom if I can't see photos of the dress?" So, still weird.

Well, why not? Their kid is getting married too. What make the Mother of the Bride so special? Reverse sexism!

As long as she did not copy the bride's dress!

But can't she get her OWN special dress?? I mean, why would anyone think this is an occasion to wear an identical dress to someone else? They are not supposed to be elderly bridesmaids!! What are they thinking in their crazy heads?

You should post this story on the crazy weddings thread. I think it's pretty funny

Won't it be great if there was a wedding where the bride requested all the married females to attend their wedding dresses?
