I'd rather my kid smelled like soap, exhertion, and sunscreen.

Plus, personally, I find I react badly to perfume. It makes me nauseated. I can really only stand stuff that is very mild, and better yet, all natural. "Essential oils" -- which you can buy at The Body Shop and many massage therapy places are usually okay, and they come in a variety of floral (feminine?) and musky (masculine?) scents. But whatever happens to scents when they're put in perfumes--just ick. Literally makes me sick to my stomach.

Unhealthy & weird.

Somewhat related, using scented baby lotion on a child is not considered socially weird or anything. It's mainly that it's Axe that makes this weird.

Scented baby lotion is usually pretty subtle. Axe is overpowering and perfumey. Gives me a headache.

Thank God my ancestors got out of Cuba before that particular travesty.

I occasionally give my girls a spritz of my perfume. If I had a son who wanted to participate, and no DH with a cologne stash to pinch, I might consider finding a sample-sized something for my son, though NOT Axe, because I think it smells rank.

Chemicals can disrupt children's hormones. You don't want to mess with that. The younger the child, the worse it could be.
There is so much we don't know yet about sprays like Axe.

OP here, wow thanks for the replies. My neighbor is not crazy and a great mom- I guess her sister used axe on her son (for the record they are from texas not nj)- My neighbor is not set on Axe ( my husband getting home from work and asking what that smell was...After she only sprayed it once) helped to sell her on how overpowering it was. I think she is set on a baby powder spray. It's definitely not for me, I agree don't want my DD smelling any more grown up..I love the toddler smell! Anyways- Thanks for helping with this interesting play date discussion.
