I have 596 friends... we have a really big family, so at least 100 are cousins/aunts/uncles/greataunts/etc. About 60 are high school friends - people I keep in touch with. Another 100 are work colleagues (its sort of trendy at our work to be on facebook and have a community-feeling). Don't know who the rest are - you've reminded me I need to prune my list. my ideal is NOT having anyone on my list who I don't recognize in real life (like, no random friend-of-friend i met at a party or parent at my kid's preschool who i'm not really friends with) and NOT having anyone I don't also communicate with on email./on phone/in person.

I have around 250. I know every one of them - I won't "friend" anyone I haven't met. They are family members (huge Catholic families), a good chunk of my grade school and high school classes, college and graduate school friends, work colleagues, and neighbors. It adds up, all the people you know.

They aren't all close friends, though, and I manage the privacy settings of each of my posts -- so if I post something about my kids I might post it only to family members and closest friends, for example.

It means that you've friended 200+ people on FB. Nothing else.

People use FB in different ways. I use mine to keep up with a few, select friends and family. I do not friend the friends I have IRL that won't get my family's dark or abrasive humor.

No, it doesn't matter to me because I have my settings set up so no one but me can see how many friends I actually have.

I grew up with seven siblings and 20+ cousins on each side. We were very close as kids and still are as adults...when I add them up, their kids, their parents and their spouses, that alone is probably over 200...

Me too. I have around 80, and I'm probably related to about 30 or so of those, and 30 of them are all in the same friend-group that was born online and while I've met all the ones I'm FB friends with, I see them maybe every few years. Then 20 random people - including a 4 people who are friends with one of my FB friends and I accepted their friend requests so as to not be offensive.

I have over 800 FB friends. I do know each and every one of them personally except for a handful of music industry people whose music I like. I have a large social circle that heavily uses FB, so that's a lot of it. I also have family, friends from high school, college and grad school and some coworkers from each job I've had.

I like FB. Makes it easy to keep up with people's lives when you don't see them regularly.
