Well these posts confirmed that I have been duped too. I switched to a new dentist who claimed I needed a mouth guard for teeth grinding and needed a cavity filled. I'm 45 years old and never had a cavity in my entire life. I did have it filled but didn't get the mouth guard. I was also told a had a bunch of others issues they needed to keep an eye on. I switched dentists again because. I was leary and sure enough no issues at all.

Wow. I knew to be wary for my kids and actually waited a good year before having my DS's cavities filled. I wanted to be sure it was necessary and avoid general anesthesia.

But seeing this thread makes me think I was the one swindled about ten years ago. I hadn't had a single cavity in my life and then all of a sudden I went to a new dentist (after a 2 year break while in grad school - no insurance) and I had 5! I had them filled but I actually think it was the start of problems. 2 new dentists and more cavities. But no one can explain why/how after 30+ years of perfect teeth I all of a sudden started developing cavities.

PP here: the dentist in Alexandria who told me I needed multiple fillings decades ago - that I did not need - showed me xrays to support his diagnosis. But the reality is that I am not qualified to interpret the xrays. So I view this as being part of the sales pitch.

Admittedly, there are honest dentists who do the same thing so I am not saying it is always a sales pitch.

Our pediatric dentist shows us the image in real time so I could see the cavity as they did.

I wish I could remember the name of the dentist that ripped me off years ago and filled non-existent cavities!

If I could, I'd name him and shame him on this thread!
