I don't have an opinion about the guy OP dated. My only thought was that based on some of the comments on this thread, my wife should have run as fast as she could from me. Of course, I have never been in therapy though my wife probably feels at times I should have been.

I told my now wife after the first date that I would one day marry her. We dated each other exclusively thereafter.

We got married two years later and have been married for over 20 years - blissfully happy. When we tell this story to others they find it to be a charming. It was love at first sight .......... and we love each other as much as the day we got married.

We are all commenting on what a loser this guy is and yes, she should not see him again. But I give him credit for going to therapy and hopefully if he works through his issues, someday being in the position to have a healthy, loving relationship.

I made the joke about dating my ex-DH, but in truth, my relationship with him started in a similar intensity way too early. This should have been the blaring klaxon to run like hell, but I was flattered at the time. Much later, I would learn that it is a sign of borderline personality disorder. People toss the term bpd around on DCUM without really meaning the person was diagnosed or understanding the extent of this mental illness. Please read about it and learn how to recognize the hallmarks before you go further with this man. It is often comorbid with anxiety and depression. He may admit to those, but not tell you he has bpd.

I came in to say from one date into a relationship is a extreme and he needs to calm down, but after reading that he had to talk to his therapist about this, I would run run run run run.

O.k., I used to run into this sort of thing with guys when I was in my late teens/early 20's. I chalked it up to emotional immaturity on their part - them confusing physical attraction for love...as young guys sometimes do.

I wouldn't expect a 40 year old grown man to do that, though. In fact, that seems pretty alarming.

Dude sounds like a needy emotional black hole. Not enough red flags in the world for this guy.

Oh, no, this guy could very well have psych issues beyond an attachment disorder. OP has to pull the "too busy with work" excuse - its too risky to make it about him.
