I'd say salaries are pretty competitive, perhaps slightly below market. I'm at about $200k.

$106K, about average for my field and level
20 days vacation (started at 15, just recently went up to 20 after 3 yrs)
3 personal days
10 sick days
all the usual DC holidays (which is more than I've had other places -- first time I've been off for MLK and Columbus Day)
I take all my vacation but usually roll over some sick days since I can work at home whenever kids are sick and don't often get sick myself.

Yes feds do get "sick leave," but I hate it. I would much, much prefer like 3 "personal days" and then also having short term disability or maternity or something like that for more serious issues. Sick leave is VERY abused by feds who've been there for a long time (and thus have hundreds of hours saved) whereas younger employees can't save enough for maternity or when things go wrong (broken leg, surgery etc). Most fed women in their 20s only have enough sick leave for maybe 4 weeks of maternity leave.
On the other hand, 4 weeks of paid maternity leave is (unfortunately) more than many people get, myself included.

Really? I use about 12 PTO days per calendar year. 5 weeks is a heckuva lot.
We are talking about maternity leave. 5 weeks isn't much.

Not the OP,...and while 10 sick days may be a ton to most, for those with chronic illnesses or caring for children with chronic illnesses,
the time quickly disappears!!

$150k base salary, 23 days PTO, plus 8 holidays.
OP, PTO is often tied to length of service, which is also related to pay, so you are likely to see higher paid people with more vacation. My company 23 days off is tied to 15 years of service. It is considerably less for newer/younger employees.

Sounds great! Is it balanced by low pay or do you just have a good employer?
It's a non-profit, and pay is definitely on the lower side. None of you would be jealous of my pay. No maternity leave, either, although we have STD.
The other poster who gets a similar amount is also at a non-profit... coincidence? I do feel like the flexibility (I work from home when I need to, leave for my kid when I need to, come in and stay late when I want to, etc) balances out the lower pay.

$85K, work at home, been there about 8 years. Tech specialty position at non-profit.
22 vacation days, 12 sick days, 11 holidays per year.
I believe new hires are 14 vacation days a year and it goes up each year.
