These are older specimens, not the Forever _______ type.

We just bought our house last summer and there were tons of blooms. I had to cut out all the old wood. Lots of leaves, but I have no idea which kind of hydrangea we have. Good to know we're not the only ones with no blooms. Are they likely to appear or could this be a season with no blooms?

Huge hydrangea that always has LOTS of blooms. This year: one bloom. Lots of new growth.

There are two types of hydrangeas: those that grow on new wood (at the tipes of the sticks) and those that start growth again at the base every year. Mine are mixed so I have to wait for greenery to come in then can tell which are the grow-at-the-bottom types and cut back the wood stems. If you remember the type of hydrangea you put in, you can check on wiki or a gardening site to find out which kind you have.

The ones that were in pots all winter bloomed. The ones that were in the ground have not. I would have thought the opposite, but I guess this is just a growth year for the ground ones.

My endless summers that get some sun during the day (not much, but a few hours) all have new growth only, but they have tons of new growth and have little bud clusters. I did have to cut off all the dead wood, but I was surprised by how strong the root system was to put out that much new growth. The three endless summers that are in the shade and get dappled sun are totally dead. Nothing but bare sticks. My annabelles, the lacecap, and the climbing hydrangea are all going NUTS this spring. I've never seen them this big or full.

10:20--I'm giving the three apparently dead endless summers the rest of the summer to see if they come back at all when it gets warmer, but otherwise I'll replace them in the fall. I've been surprised by what has come back from the apparent dead as the days have gotten a little warmer.

It is now june first and my hydrangeas are completly bare sticks..I have 4 forevers planted Iin a row this would have been there 3rd summer. I have 3 bare and 1 full of leaves is this normal.

I thought all of mine were dead, too, but leaves now budding somewhat.

Off topic, but does anyone have a favorite place to buy or order hydrangeas? I ordered several from Michigan Bulb about 6 years ago, but they weren't impressive. Would I be better off going to a local gardening center? The ones that bloom and grow the best are the ones from the previous owners!!

Mine only has leaves at the bottom. It was so late this year. I really thought it was dead.
