I have been jonesing for some lox.
My husband and I had a huge fight about bacon the other day: I ate a cobb salad with maybe one slice crumbled over the top; he went apeshit saying that I was poisoning our child with nitrates. I knew it wasn't a big deal. I rarely eat it anyway. I am planning a trip to the Silver Diner, where they serve gluten-free French toast with marriage-safe, nitrate-free bacon.
Your husband is an ass.

I pay attention to the quality and sourcing of where I eat my food, which is the greater variable to control. No way in hell would I eat a cold cut sandwich from Subway or a similar place, for a multitude of reasons, including the listeria risk and general "ick" factor of the "food" they serve.
I have to agree, I've seen too many subways closed by the health department not to mention got BAD food poisoning at a subway where it was coming out of both ends, lol. I know they aren't all the same, but it's turned me off to this chain.
