But it is useful to know how the game has worked out for others. For example, without this thread, I would not have known that South Carolina offers in state tuition to some OOS students.

I also like hearing about schools that I might not gave thought to mention to DC as possibilities he should explore.

And it is kind of a game, isn't it?

Why would the children care about the financial award info? Any financial aid my child is (or is not) given is due to MY financial situation. Those are MY tax forms we used to fill out the FAFSA. And why is a financial or merit aid award a state secret anyway? What harmful information could possibly be gleaned from that?

There is no way that anyone is identifiable to a stranger here. I suppose there is a remote chance that someone who already knows me or DC could look at a list of colleges and think, those are the schools Larla applied to. In which case, they already know where Larla applied, they likely already know where Larla will attend, and I don't care if they know Larla is going there because she got a big merit aid award. In fact, I'm happy to tell people about schools that are generous with aid for kids with stats like my Larla's. So in fact, I feel the exact opposite about sharing this info--I don't care who recognizes me and I don't think the info is personal in any way, and I actually WANT to share it.

DD was also accepted to South Carolina with instate tuition. It had been her first choice until she was accepted to Villanova, where we'll pay full freight.

And you guys would forego a full ride to pay full freight? That's great and your family's perogative but a tiny part of me went "Yikes!" But if it works for your family and all is happy!!!

That's us. South Carolina with instate tuition had always been the front runner (DD was accepted in December and really liked the school). Villanova was a dream school DD applied to (mostly because it was a common app school) and was recently accepted. We always told the kids they could go anywhere they were accepted and they'd have no school debt (this was very important to DH because his parents provided zero support). So, yes, we're full pay at Villanova and DD is beyond thrilled.
