It is public transportation...and incidents happen on all bus routes. Taking a public bus to a public school while walking through the public neighborhood will have risk at all levels. Street smarts and book smart comes with lesson learn scenarios.

You have to really depend on knowing the bus schedules and routes. Different times and days of the week will make your commuting a nightmare.

Such as traveling on the weekday during the rush hours is pretty consistent. But you do have Saturday activities at the school or after-school activities during the week that can hamper your travels.

70 bus is fine and comes more frequently than the 63. (And it's not nearly as rough as the 90s that go across Florida!) I think the Navy Yard route sounds great. I also grew up taking the public bus to school, from about 3rd grade on (with my older brother). It's a great way for kids to learn independence. Good luck with school!

OP here. Rule hasn't changed, no cellphones allowed so kids use the corner store.

FYI, you might want to check with banneker about whether they've changed rules regarding cell phones. The principal is very strict about no cellphones at Banneker. The students used to pay a local bodega/corner store to hold the phones for them.
