Neighbors complained of a stinch and finally police broke in, she had been dead for days. Estranged, toxic, whatever, no one deserves that and I can't take advice from a woman on how to be a parent and wife in that scenario.
I can honestly say if this was my sociopathic BIL, I would not blink. Some people you separate from. Period
My parents are hoarders. My mother hasn't let me in the house in 24 years. If I called the fire department she would never talk to me. So we continue like this. I would hope no one would think ill of me if both parents died 3,500 miles away. There's no way I would ever know. Their own grandchildren have never seen the inside of their home. You just can't sit in judgment in some of these situations.

There are hateful recluses out there who want nothing to do with other people. There are kind seniors who interact with others only a few times a week. Someone dying while living alone and not being discovered for days isn't a reflection on poor treatment from family members.
Just looked this up: she was in there for two months. Just a few miles from her daughter's office. I'm sorry, that is inexcusable. She is her MOTHER.
