OMG YES! I used to be scared as shit to leave my house even as a late teenager. The story that I was told was that the bunny man escaped from a mental institution. I grew up in the 70's and I remembered being freaked out about seeing anyone dressed like the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus because I thought they were pedophiles who wanted to kill children. However, DC was a scary place in the 70's. Rather this story was true or not some crazy shit used to happen here back in the day.


OMG. OP again. So glad you can relate. I just wanted to communicate with someone who understands!

Yes -- and it's true. Every year around this time a man in a bunny outfit sneaks into the dmv and deletes a bunch of critical records, like insurance information or titles. He's been known to recalibrate the emissions machines too. Some say he is hopped up on sugar, but whatever it is he's on, he is crazed. Never try to register a car around Easter, unless you have a VW Rabbit. Everyone from around here knows this. And now you do, too.

I didn't grow up here, but my husband did, and he remembers the bunny man legend. It's kind of spun into the movie "Donnie Darko."
