Yes but ITT grads make more than Amherst grads too. Doesn't make it prestigious.

Who's talking prestige?

If you can finish a program and get a good paying job and lead a happy productive life, who the hell cares about prestige???

Applause!

No, I think a troll started it to bash GMU - probably because they didn't get in. But what is troubling is that those who are old and decrepit pile on claiming GMU is just a commuter school. It isn't anymore and hasn't been for some time. How can 33,000 students commute?

If you are looking to get a reputable degree, save money and not party it is an excellent option. Of course there is another body of students that are partying but it isn't the dominating culture.

This is actually quite true. Did you read the Washington Post piece about the GMU computer science graduate who went out to Silicon Valley to help with start-ups and is now back putting money into the Dulles Corridor companies. The Computer Science department heads and board meets quarterly with representatives of all the Dulles Tech. companies to compare notes about what the companies are seeking in the way of graduates and to seek grant money. A lot of Fed money is also going into Computer science, Robotics, Engineering and Serious Game Design.

To 8:06, GMU dad here, I don't understand the GMU bashing either. Granted, I had never visited it until we did the college tour, but least I didn't carry around this bigoted view of it as a commuter school and, frankly, the whole family was blown away by what it offered. I wish those who have never been on campus or not au courante with what is happening there would just stop with the commuter college business. They are just showing their ignorance. It is true that over 75% of the freshman on campus are in dorms and more are clamoring to get in. GMU has been building for the last 13 years to meet demand (which some of the alums decry because the drills start up at 7:00 a.m.). Triples have had to be turned into quads to satisfy dorm demands. And everyone on DS's floor is from overseas or out of state with the exception of two very nice young men from further south in the State. DS is coming on finishing his first year. We could not be more pleased - and it was NOT easy to get into from NoVA. Many of his McLean friends did not get in.

For the love of god, stop with the Hyperbole. GMU is fine, but it hardly rates middle of the pack by even Virginia Standards.

You obviously don't know they had an admissions director solely in charge of all the international admissions? When was the last time you were on campus?

"Computer" Department? You mean CS? If so there are many more esteemed universities for that. Probably hundreds.

Times have changed.

Nonsense point. Times have changed. Now UVA is among the top schools in the nation. VT is a solid school. And GMU barely exists on anyone's radar, except for mediocre students.

Oh wait, times change but the relative position of the schools havent. Funny how that works.

Oh, give me a break. A ton of really good students go to GMU for a variety of reasons. Two posters in another thread recently stated their children opted for GMU over UVA. I think it was a money issue, but when it comes to college, money is a HUGE deciding factor. It's not always about "the best I could do" or "where the mediocre kids get in". Intelligent people know this, and so do those who really matter: employers. So who cares what an obviously miserable, unbalanced anonymous person thinks.

Not the PP, but actually, it does. It's a very strong presence among Virginia universities. If you disagree, so be it. But you'd be wrong.

Sorry but GMU is average. On par with ODU and VCU. Way below UvA and WM. possibly better than Radford or Longwood. possibly.

I'd say that rates as below average.

It certainly ranks below the 50th pecentile nationally according to USNews

VCU is far more renowned than GMU.

Yes i am sure Comm college students can make lots of money if they work hard....Except you have to forever look down when someone asks " where did you go to college".

Who asks where you went to college?

Not one person asked where I went to college once I got my degree and entered the workforce. People wanted to know what kind of work I do, how long I've been with the company etc.

And what person who's earned a degree would look down when asked where they went to college? After grinding away for 4 years, you proudly proclaim you earned your degree at _____________.

I've heard of slut shaming, but college shaming?

I take it you were rejected by Mason and still haven't gotten over it.

Actually with an average SAT lower than my public HS's, I'd be surprised if anyone got rejected from GMU
