Young-ish, fashion-forward women in many other cities do wear them with some frequency - Birks are a bit more of a casual, West-coast style, but yes, they are definitely in/featured in all of the style blogs/mags/etc. Check out Gretchen's Closet for a "real" 40-something year old woman wearing many of these trends.
