He has been wanting this show, and apparently timed the end of his contract to line up with Dave's retirement, so I think it is definitely more than the money.

sometimes it has to be more than the money. you don't turn down this kind of opportunity. you just can't. i remember tony kornheiser only last what 1/2 seasons on Monday Night Football. he was awful in that medium and heart wasn't in it to begin w/but said if someone approaches you w/that kind of deal you do it.

I agree. Colbert is wicked smart and funny and I love his character on the Colbert Report. I DVR it and watch it every night (the next day) along with Jon Stewart. I remember when Colbert was invited to the National Press Club to roast Pres. Bush (Jr.) Oh my!

Colbert is really funny even when he is not in character so I think he will still be funny. However, I am bummed that he won't be doing the Colbert Report anymore and will instead be "interviewing" celebrities for the most part.

When I had heard he was the front runner for this job, I thought he might pass on it but I guess not. Will probably watch a lot of Colbert Report this year before it is gone!
